At the Koibatek Ogiek Women and Youth Network (KOWYN), we believe that the most resilient seeds are those that carry the history of our land. Earlier this week, we took another meaningful step in our mission to reclaim our agricultural heritage by officially handing over a diverse collection of indigenous seeds to the Moiben Self-Help Group in Sigoro.

These are not merely seeds; they are vessels of ancestral wisdom and proven resilience, carrying generations of knowledge within them.

Seeds as a Catalyst for Sovereignty

By integrating these indigenous varieties into their farms, the Moiben Self-Help Group is doing more than just planting for a harvest. They are taking on the role of community guardians. The seeds provided will be carefully regenerated to serve two primary purposes:

• Nourishing Families: Providing access to healthy, culturally rooted foods that are naturally adapted to our local climate and soil conditions.
• Strengthening Local Systems: Ensuring that the bounty of these seeds is not kept in isolation but is actively shared throughout our network.
