At the Koibatek Ogiek Women and Youth Network (KOWYN), we understand that a community’s independence is inextricably linked to its ability to feed itself. More importantly, it is linked to the seeds it keeps. Today, we are proud to announce a significant milestone in our food sovereignty journey: the official launch of two new community seed banks for the Taachasis Ogiek Women Group and the Kamara Ogiek Women Group.

Seed Saving: The Heart of Ogiek Heritage

For the Ogiek people, seed saving is not just an agricultural practice—it is a cultural anchor. It is the practice of honoring the wisdom passed down by our elders, who understood that the seeds we plant today determine the health and resilience of our families tomorrow.

By reclaiming our indigenous seeds, we are doing more than just protecting crop varieties; we are tracing our roots back to the forest and ensuring that our unique agricultural heritage remains vibrant. In an era of industrial homogenization, these seed banks serve as:
