At the Koibatek Ogiek Women and Youth Network (KOWYN), our greatest joy is witnessing the transition from potential to reality. Today, we are incredibly proud to share a true success story emerging from our youth-led initiatives—a milestone for the Masaita Ogiek Youth Group.

The Seeds of Change

Just a few months ago, our team conducted a specialized training session for the Masaita youth. We focused on the technical foundations of tree nursery establishment and management, with a dedicated emphasis on fruit tree grafting and propagation.

We didn’t just want to provide information; we wanted to empower these young individuals with the skills to build their own independent livelihoods. The youth approached the training with focus and determination, learning how to select the best scions, execute precise grafting techniques, and manage the delicate environment of a nursery.

A Thriving Enterprise

Today, that hard work has blossomed into a reality. We are thrilled to announce that the Masaita Ogiek Youth Group has successfully established a fully operational, high-quality fruit tree nursery.

The seedlings are now robust, healthy, and ready for sale. For the members of the group, this represents far more than just agricultural success; it marks a significant step toward economic empowerment. By entering the market with these high-value seedlings, these young entrepreneurs are creating a sustainable income stream that will benefit their families and their community for years to come.
