Empowering Youth Through Beekeeping and Sustainable Livelihoods
On World Bee Day, a vibrant and inspiring event was held at Mumberes Mlango Mmoja, bringing together the Masaita Youth Group for a day of learning, empowerment, and community building. The focus of the event was to equip the youth with practical knowledge in beekeeping and beehive management—key skills that promote both environmental sustainability and economic independence.
The event was officially commissioned by the CEO of Koibatek Ogiek Women and Youth Network (KOWYN), Judy Kipkenda, whose presence and words of encouragement set the tone for a purposeful and impactful day. Her support reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to uplifting youth and promoting sustainable livelihoods in local communities.
Led by expert trainer Kibet Kipsang, the training covered essential aspects of modern beekeeping techniques, hive maintenance, and the vital role bees play in our ecosystem. The youth showed great enthusiasm and eagerness to apply what they learned to real-world practice.
To further support the group’s beekeeping journey, beehives were generously donated to the Masaita Youth Group. This donation is a meaningful step toward empowering the youth to generate income and contribute to environmental conservation in their region.
The day concluded with a shared meal, bringing everyone together in celebration of learning, community, and hope for a more sustainable future.
This initiative was proudly funded by the American Jewish World Service (AJWS), whose continued partnership with grassroots efforts is making a lasting impact.
