Building Climate Resilience: Indigenous Knowledge Adaptation Training.

The training focused on strengthening community knowledge and practical approaches to responding to climate change while recognizing the important role of Indigenous knowledge in building resilient communities.

Participants explored traditional practices that have supported communities in adapting to environmental changes for generations, including:

  • Forest conservation and restoration
  • Sustainable Indigenous farming practices
  • Preservation of Indigenous seeds
  • Protection of water sources and biodiversity
  • Sustainable use of natural resources
  • Diversification of livelihoods
  • Passing knowledge from elders to younger generations

The session also created a space for participants to share their experiences, observations, and locally developed solutions to climate challenges. These conversations highlighted the importance of combining Indigenous knowledge with practical climate adaptation approaches.

The training reaffirmed a simple but powerful message: communities already hold valuable knowledge for responding to climate change.

By strengthening Indigenous knowledge, encouraging community led action, and promoting intergenerational learning, KOWYN continues to support communities in building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
